Leap of Faith

Sep 28, 2026

“You just have to take a leap of faith!” That’s what people say. You won’t get anywhere unless you jump out and take a risk! But what really is a “leap of faith?” What if we leap, and there is nothing there to catch us? What if we jump and then fall to our doom?

One of the most highly-regarded philosophers of all times, Immanuel Kant, saw belief in God as a leap of faith. Kant believed that we cannot prove the existence of anything that we cannot perceive with the senses. Therefore to believe in God means taking a leap into an unknowable cavern.

But is our Christian faith a leap into the unknown? Thankfully, the Bible assures us it is not.  Hebrews 11:1 defines faith beautifully: “Now faith is the ASSURANCE of things hoped for, the CONVICTION of things not seen.”

Our faith in God is based on evidence. Romans 1:19-20 says, “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to him. For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made…”

God’s invisible attributes are made clear in His creation. Proof of His existence is right before our very eyes.

And belief in Jesus His Son is based on evidence, too. Jesus says in John 5:36, “For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me.” The miracles Jesus performed in the presence of many eyewitnesses give validity to His message and who He is.

So when it comes to your faith in Christ, leap out of that plane! Jump off that cliff! Hop into the abyss! We know our landing is secure. We can be ASSURED and CONVICTED that the God we believe in is true and that Jesus was His Son in the flesh. Having confidence in these truths inspires us to live each and every day fully devoted to Him and dedicated to helping others find Him, too.
