Everything’s Going to Be All Right

Dec 23, 2024

There’s ALWAYS something to worry about.

How is it that life never seems truly peaceful? There is always something overshadowing our happiness, something we’re dealing with that’s difficult to juggle or a concern that has us feeling anxious. When one area of life seems stable, an issue in another area develops. Like whack-a-mole, troubles have a way of constantly popping up.

If we take a look at the news, we see even more cause for concern. There is so much calamity and tragedy going on around us, so many opportunities looming on the horizon for us to worry about.

Ever since the fall in the garden when sin entered the world, the human race has been cursed with trouble and tribulation. Life is just never easy.

But a baby born in a small town about two thousand years ago impacted the world in a magnificent way. Because of the birth of that baby, even though worry and fear and sadness and anxiousness grip our hearts continually, we can know that it’s not always going to be that way.

A pastor recently shared the wise words of his young daughter. “Christmas makes me feel like everything’s going to be all right.”

THAT is Christmas. In the midst of a life filled with ups and downs and joys and sorrows, Christmas provides a sense of relief, a respite, a reminder that things will not always be this way. Christmas brings a sense of calm reassurance that in the end, everything will be okay. Because the Creator of the world loved us so much that He was willing to give us the gift of eternal life, through the birth of a Son who was completely God and completely man at the same time, a baby who would grow up to sacrifice Himself in order to restore our broken relationship with God and bring hope to our fallen world.

Jesus tells his disciples just before His death, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Jesus knows firsthand about the tribulation of the world – He lived it! But He encourages His disciples to take heart, to look up, to have hope. This is what the celebration of Christmas does for us. It reminds us to take heart and keep up hope! Because in the end, Jesus will overcome. He will triumph, and sin will reign no more. This is a promise we can hold onto, a promise that allows us to experience peace right now, knowing there is hope for the future.

This week, may you rest in this wonderful promise and experience a sense of overwhelming peace, knowing that because of the birth of our Savior, everything’s going to be all right.

I used that very phrase, “whack a mole” when I prayed the other day about feeling plagued by so many different life issues at times. Well written.

Though not a Christmas or Christian song, and certainly not anything played in a contemporary playlist, the song “O-o-h Child” by Five Stairsteps came to mind as I read this. I’m sure thankful for our Prince of Peace and the opportunity to share his birth this week.

Another great bit of writing Kris. Keep being awesome!
