Hunger Pangs

Sep 22, 2025

And He humbled you and let you hunger…” Deut. 8:3

Humility. This is the beginning point. Pride has no need for God. Perfection has no need for a Savior. Self-reliance has no need for a Heavenly Father. Humility is the realization that I myself am imperfect and weak.

Hunger. Like an aching in the pit of your stomach when you’re in need of food, so our souls ache for something to fill them, to lift them, to help them, to comfort them.

If you’re full, you don’t go searching the fridge. It’s the hunger pangs that send us seeking.

God humbles us. God lets us hunger.

I don’t like to feel low, weak, and unfulfilled. But this is where I must be in order for God to be able to work in my life.

Jesus, in Matthew 5:6, tells his followers, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.”

When we are at a place of hunger and thirst, we are blessed! Why? Because we get to experience God’s goodness firsthand! We get to realize His gracious hand in our life. We get to become satisfied by HIM.

Charles Spurgeon sais: “You have never received spiritual life by your own feelings. It was when you believed God’s Word that you lived; and you will never get an increase of spiritual life, and grow in grace, by your own feelings or your own doings. It must still be by believing the promises and feeding on the Word.”

God, today as I face my week, I acknowledge my weakness. I hunger and yearn for Your provision. Help me to look to You and Your Word to find the ultimate satisfaction.
