“Working together with Him…” (2 Corinthians 6:1)
When our son David was little, he loved to imitate his dad. None of his older sisters had the same innate longing that he had to be like his father. As a toddler, he would take his little plastic lawn mower and follow right behind Mike whenever he mowed the lawn. He would do it with such resolve, taking the job very seriously. Together they would get that grass cut!
In a way, this is what it’s like as we’re “working together” with God. Wasn’t David often just in the way? Couldn’t Mike have done the work without him? Wasn’t Mike the one actually getting the job done? Yes. But out of love for his dad, David wanted to be a part of the process. And though his father technically did all the work, he wanted his son right there working with him.
We have all been given a calling on this earth. We all have a purpose to fulfill. We have been called to work, to bear fruit and make disciples of all nations. Are we working to fulfill this call?
In the same chapter, Paul admonishes the church: “We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians; our heart is wide open. You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections.” (2 Corinthians 6:11-12)
What is it that restricts me in my work for God? What is it that stops me from being productive in my purpose for Him? It is nothing other than my own affections.
Where are my affections? Where is my heart? Am I too busy seeking after worldly pleasures to focus on what really matters for eternity? Am I too wrapped up in unimportant things?
Worldly affections are easy. They are comfortable. They feel best in the moment. But as co-workers with God, we have a higher calling.
God, thank you for using me for your great purpose. Help my eyes to be open to ways I can be used by you. Help my own affections not to get in the way.

Great job, Kris! A perfect way to start the week!
What a beautiful illustration you have given of fulfilling our purpose. Thank you Kris!
